Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign offers a way to correct an irregular bite without braces. The system features clear plastic aligners customized to fit over your teeth that gradually shift your smile into proper alignment.

You change aligners every week or two to coax your teeth into a more regular bite position.

Why should I consider Invisalign?

Invisalign is an effective way to correct an irregular bite. It offers several benefits when compared with braces. These include:

  • You remove them to eat and drink, so your diet doesn’t have to change
  • You remove them to floss and brush
  • People barely notice you’re wearing them
  • They have no wires or brackets to rub against your gums
  • No wires mean no breakage and emergency dental visits for repairs

Invisalign is so effective that treatment plans are often shorter than those associated with conventional braces.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign effectively corrects most bite misalignments and can also help with gapped teeth.

Specific conditions that Invisalign addresses include:

  • Overbites and underbites
  • Crossbites and open bites
  • Gapped or crowded teeth

If you desire straighter teeth, Invisalign is an excellent choice.

Invisalign is for patients of all ages. Teens, in particular, appreciate the ability to remove the aligners to eat and drink, play sports, and clean their teeth and the aligners.

What is the process of getting Invisalign?

If Dr. Hoang determines Invisalign is right for you, he’ll have you come in for a 3D scan of your mouth. He sends this scan to the Invisalign lab, where your aligners are made.

When your aligners arrive from the lab, the office has you come in for a fitting. You’ll receive an entire set of aligners, switching to a new one every week or two. Dr. Hoang recommends that you wear Invisalign for at least 20 hours each day for the best results.

You’ll come in every six weeks or so to ensure that you’re complying with the treatment plan and that the aligners are working correctly. The length of your treatment will depend on the corrections needed. In most cases, treatment lasts several months to two years.
